The above illustrations from S.P.A.C.E. files depict authentic accounts from close encounter witnesses. The science fiction magazine cover below from June 1935 is for a fictional story by a famous science fiction writer about alien spacecraft occupants kidnapping a human and examining her on a table.

The first network television true life dramatic depiction of a human abducted by a UFO was shown on the TV series "ONE STEP BEYOND" hosted by real life paranormal investigator JOHN NEWLAND. The episode was "ENCOUNTER" (season two-episode 29) originally broadcast on April 12, 1960, 17 months before the seminal U.S. UFO abduction of BETTY and BARNEY HILL. In this re-creation of a UFO kidnapping before the first telling of UFO abduction accounts emerged later in the 1960's, Bob Rand, a pilot on a mining company survey, encounters a huge UFO that comes towards his airplane and he and the aircraft go missing for four days until he is found alive at a far distant place after his kidnapping by a UFO. The story is based on a combination of actual UFO encounter reports. Here, and throughout our website, S.P.A.C.E. present actual UFO close encounter accounts, not all stealth encounters, among the many hundreds told at our monthly S.P.A.C.E. support and study gatherings. While the bulk of these reports must remain private due to the requests of our participants, we can cite those that were approved for public access or noted without a source. The complete One Step Beyond "Encounters" episode can be viewed, full screen, below.

                                                     CLOSE ENCOUNTERS STORIES FROM S.P.A.C.E.

"The abductees are not liars and they are not crazy. Someone has to champion them." -- DR. JOHN MACK about his work. He was a strong supporter of S.P.A.C.E.

This page will discuss the close encounter experiences of UFO abductees, contactees and experiencers, all witnesses (whatever the name designations to describe them) involved in an extraordinary range of mysterious otherworldly events, from the frightening to the transformative, and all variety of shadings in between. Shown here are three original drawings provided to S.P.A.C.E., among many, depicting three types of close encounters by witnesses.

The first shows a woman in her midtown Manhattan apartment awakening and seeing a nonhuman being floating outside her bedroom window prior to a stealth close encounter, more commonly called a UFO alien abduction. Artist Sal Almandola drew this sketch based upon her description and the drawing appeared in a print issue of the S.P.A.C.E. Newsletter in the mid-1990's.

The second drawing was provided to S.P.A.C.E. by a witness of her nighttime UFO sighting in the hills of Vermont on April 11, 2005 at 9:25 p.m. "This is my interpretation of what I saw. Because of my hilltop location, my view of the object was more of a side view," she writes. "I estimate the length to be about 300 feet, but it was probably longer. The reddish (blinking) light at the rear was lower than the bright (steady) white light on the front." She described the UFO as having a "dark, unlighted structure."

The third drawing by a S.P.A.C.E. participant and UFO experiencer is based on a lucid or vivid dream she had in the mid-1990's;. It depicts, she said, "a human-E.T. party some time in the 21st Century" aboard a UFO with S.P.A.C.E. participants mixing openly with human-nonhuman hybrids, one of them standing behind and between the human males, intermingling with a nonhuman being in the front.

So here are three aspects of close encounters: The first is the beginning of a close encounter of the fourth kind between a human and nonhuman as the stealth contact intrusion, a longtime UFO hotspot \efly conscious, enters the invisibility abduction state with conscious memory blocked by the intruders.

The second is the most common of all close encounters, the conscious sighting of a UFO, a type of cigar-shaped mother=ship estimated to be at least 30-stories long. The third is the dream aspect of close encounter experiencers, this one a precognitive dream with vividness and lucidity at work. Whether this is a true picture of a future event, a scenario implanted in the subject's mind during sleep by nonhuman entities whose "intended message"is subject to interpretation and speculation, or a mysterious imaginal state dream, we do not know.

Following this text is an account, as published in a print "S.P.A.C.E. Newsletter" in 1993, as transcribed by Egeln from his hypnosis session with DR. JEAN MUNDI, recounting a "missing time" episode and suggested UFO occupant abduction that involved HAROLD EGELN and Newsletter Editor JOSPEH WIEK inside the former Sheridan Square Coffee Shop, by Seventh Avenue and West 4th Street, late on the evening of Tuesday, January 12, 1993 in Greenwich Village, NYC; At the time the two experiencers began discussions on working together with the result of WIEK becoming the S.P.A.C.E. newsletter editor soon after.

The location of the episode suggested a deliberate choice of the UFO occupants. The coffee shop is one block south of the Stonewall Inn where a riot became the spark that ignited the Gay and Lesbian Liberation Movement in June 1969. Wiek was openly gay.

The account narrative stems from their personal experience and the results of two separate hypnosis sessions, EGELN with DR. JEAN MUNDY and WIEK with a therapist working with BUDD HOPKINS. The coffee shop later became the "MYTHOS" Greek food restaurant and is now a Starbucks.

There are two photos taken by Egeln below of JOSEPH WIEK (S.P.A.C.E. NEWSLETTER print edition editor,1993-1999) playing his violin in his home and knelling at the shoreline of NYC's Croton Falls Reservoir in Brewster, NY, the longtime UFO hot-spot in Putnam County and scene of many S.P.A.C.E. CE-5 Away Teams night time field trips. [See our Brewster, NY UFO Contact webpage.]

Wiek passed away in May 2006 at age 41, born in Seattle, Washington on July 20, 1964.

Some S.P.A.C.E. participants and friends, who either attended our support meeting meetings or our public events, have written books about their encounters, such as songwriter, performer and playwright ALAN RUSSELL WHITE ("The Consciousness of an Extraterrestrial Experiencer"), Unitarian minister and occasional "Ancient Aliens" TV series guest REV. MICHAEL CARTER ("Alien Scriptures: Extraterrestrials in the Holy Bible"), retired performer, singer, dancer and actress (as well as former secretary for Whitley Strieber) LORIE BARNES ("Things Seen and Unseen: My Visible and Invisible Life Story" e-book), UFO researcher and author FARAH YURDOZU with artist DAVID HUGGINS ("Love in an Alien Purgatory: The Life and Fantastic Art of David Huggins"), and journalist, peace and environmental activist/writer HAROLD EGELN (the "Project Wonderland UFO Chronicles: The 'WOW!' Contact" e-book), among others who also have websites such as POSEY GILBERT.

S.P.A.C.E. participants have made movies, such as the late CAROLYN BARNES (no relation to Lorie Barnes and a leading early champion of S.P.A.C.E.) with her "STONE CHAMBERS" documentary and her short-lived "S.P.A.C.E. BRIDGE" TV show with POSEY GILBERT. Several S.P.A.C.E participants who went public with their UFO encounters have been on dozens of radio and TV programs, in documentaries ("Welcome Home, S.P.A.C.E." by Blake Gingrich "The Hidden Hand: Alien Abductions and the Government UFO Cover-up" by James Carman, and Sci-Fi Channel's "The Abduction Diaries" just prior to "Steven Spielberg's Taken" six-part mini-series on the cable TV network, now the Sy Fy Channel.

Several S.P.A.C.E. participants who have gone public have made presentations alone or on panels at UFO topic conferences. These include the Whole Life UFO Expos in NYC (1993 and 1994), and in Wooster, Massachusetts in the mid-1990's, NYC conferences by Michael Luckman in the 1990's at the Village Gate and Hudson Bar-and-Grill in NYC, the UFO Congress Conferences in Hamilton Township, NJ in the 1990's and 2000's, and the Omega UFO Conferences by John White in North Haven, Connecticut in the 1990's, and, more recently, at the two UFO "Culture of Contact" multimedia conferences in Manhattan (2007) and Jersey City-Hoboken, NJ (2008). Several have told about their experiences on numerous radio, television and podcast programs over a period of 22 years, including on Coast-to-Coast A.M., Whitley Strieber's Dreamland, Alan Steinfeld's New Realities, Shirley MacLaine's radio show, CNBC's After Hours, and dozens of local and regional radio and TV programs, including WBAI-FM here in NYC.

S.P.A.C.E. also held three entertainment events in the 1990's in the East Village of Manhattan in which contact experiencers showed their creative side with their poetry, songs and music, short stories, art and film/videos.

The second-to-last photo-scan is part one of the two-part "ABOARD A FLYING SAUCER - The Adventures of Two 'Kidnapped' Humans" book excerpt preview by JOHN FULLER, author of "The Interrupted Journey" about Barney and Betty Hill. The excerpts appeared in the October 4 and 18, 1966 issues of "LOOK Magazine," just prior to the breakthrough book's publication, the first documented case of a "UFO kidnapping" presented to the public in both magazine and book formats.

The next photo-scan is the first page of the "ARE FLYING SAUCERS REAL?" article by Dr. J. Allen Hynek that appeared in "The Saturday Evening Post" magazine in 1966, as the famous Illinois astronomer was changing from a skeptical UFO investigator and spokesperson for the U.S. Air Force to an independent UFO scientific evidence defender, and laterfounder of the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) in 1974..

And here we are 48  years later as one of the many support and study groups for UFO abductees and experiencers, witnesses of a still not fully explained interface contact between humans and UFO occupants. In the last decade of the 20th Century and the first two decades of the 21st Century, S.P.A.C.E., in its freely given mission, continues tohelp give contact witnesses a voice if they chose to speak publicly, and a safe, secure private support group for the far many, many more experiencers who chose to remain anonymous.

Above is the introductory page about the Goffstown UFO occupants from an article by close encounter investigator RAYMOND FOWLER published in the August 1975 issue of the NYC-based "OFFICIAL UFO" magazine.

The two videos above are from the UFO EXPERIENCERS SPEAK CONFERENCE held inPortland, Maine in September 2013.

The interview below is with therapist DR. YVONNE SMITH of C.E.R.O. (the Close Encounter Research Organization), a support and study group founded in 1991 by Dr. Smith, also a book author.

Below is an account by UFO contact witness EMIL RODRIGUEZ of Brooklyn concerning his remarkable daylight flying saucer with entities contact sighting at a busy intersection of Brooklyn Heights on July 3, 1991. His account, with his sketch of the sighting, appeared in the November 1992 issue of the 'S.P.A.C.E. NEWSLETTER."

This painting is of the UFO abduction, with examinations, of John and Susan Day with their child from Essex in England in 1974.
